Most are just spammers or bots. The board I admin gets about 12 a day that thry to join. It just gets to be a hassle to delete them all.

it was a real pain in the butt...all of that advertising junk was really getting in the way.

*nods* But it's a HUGE business. People are paid to make and distribute viruses, spyware, and spam, and then those same people are paid to make programs to fix the problems... it secures their jobs, basically.
