They should be coming out at about the half-way point of the year. I suggested red blood cell, white blood cell, and brain cell. I think that's what they're making!:D Not too shure, though.

But Bacteria don't have RBCs, WBCs, or brain cells =(. I want more bacteria!!! For the stupid human cells to be cool emphasis needs to be put on what microbes infect them, that means malaria needs to be made for RBC, already have HIV and TB for the WBC, and Mad Cow and HIV for the Brain (yes HIV can infect certain types of brain cells, usually happens late in infection). I'll still likely get them but would be much appeased if there were actual microbes introed as well :).

My little sister suggested that they make cockididimycosis. It is a microbe that causes mushrooms to grow on your skin. And guess what, they are going to make it.:D

It makes mushrooms grow on your skin??? EWWWWWWW! Sounds cool! Can't wait to buy it!

I'm gettin them as soon as they come out. The e-mail didn't say the exact date or month, just "mid-2006" anyway, they will be sooooooo cool!

I think the RBC and WBC thing is a great idea, I certainly could have used them to help my classmates through histology. I wonder if they'd do a sickled RBC, I seem to be hearing of quite a few cases of sickle cell lately, and it'd be nice as an educational tool ... so much easier than trying to draw it out on a piece of paper.

I'm also rather curious as to what type of WBC they might release.

I'd guess macrophage.

I'm hoping to have all the current ones before the new ones come out. I'm guessing they will come out sometime in June or July. Luckily, if things go according to plan, I will buy Polio this weekend, HIV, Hepatitis, and Dust Mite in may, and Bed bug, louse, and bookworm in june, therefore, beginning to collect the new ones in July (if they are out by then, that is). If they add more to the already existing categories (maladies, health, etc.), and I imagine they will, I will collect those ones first, just to finish off the already-started categories. Then, I will start on the new categories. Since they will probably do a new category for the cells, I'll do that one first. If it's the only new category, I'll still do it after re-completing the old categories. If you read this, I'm amazed, because it is long and pointless.:D :D :D

When I e-mailed giant microbes they said they were coming out with malaria, the some aquatic microbes then some for pets    I wonder what they mean by that?

Execpt for the malaria part.

Either pet illnesses or pet toys I guess, could be a market for either but I would of course prefer the illnesses... Aquatic microbes and malaria, sweet!!!

Sounds like you have quite the plan Giardia! I will likely receive louse and maybe the soap dispenser in the next couple of weeks (my mommy asked what I didn't have...), that would complete my collection until they finally give us the new ones!!! They better put the cells in a different catagory if they come out with them, they are not microbes (not saying that I wouldn't think they are cool and that I wouldn't buy them since I would but as a purist they just aren't microbes)!!!! They should call it the "Cell Line" that would amuse me...

Giardia
04-17-2006, 10:24 PM
Yes, quite amusing...well, alot of new ones are coming out...byebye allowence! It is good that some pet diseases are coming out...they're beginning to run out of human ones!

kskerr
04-18-2006, 01:29 AM
There are plenty of human diseases left, just that many look alike probably, they try to find ones that look different. I figure they can just get a pic that uses a different staining technique for some of them, that would intoduce some color diversity.

I want a probiotics line, forget the diseases focus on the friendly happy bacteria :)

I e-mailed them early last month and they said they were hoping to have the new designs out the first week of April, but that deadline has come and gone...so maybe soon? :)

When I e-mailed Giant Microbes they said it was not likely they'd run out of microbes to make because they get about 3 suggestions a day. Wow.

HOLY MOLY! 3 a day?

Just look at our humble thread of suggestions, that one is pack full of ideas, plus there are many many many microbes to choose from so no I don't see them running out of microbes... First week of April eh (that eh is for you Giardia, my favorite Canuck ;)), well we are a bit past that so here's hoping they get them out soon. Though as long as it is before Christmas I'm fine, in fact the closer to christmas the less tempted I would be to buy them myself and not let my family get any adn that could cause a feud directed at me (there will be one either way, usually they argue on who gets to get which one, my mom is the nuttiest about it, she is upset that my sister got me polio since that is the one she thought was cutest of the three I didn't have, no wonder I'm nuts!).

Hopefully I will have a month or two to keep some money in my pocket! Of course, as soon as the new ones come out, the saved money will go towards them:D :D :D :D !

04-19-2006, 08:15 PM
Ah to be able to blow my savings on whatever I want whenever I want, did that for quite a few years until I moved out and now have the whole rent and bills thing going on. Ah well, eventually I will get a good paying job and save up enough to where I can again...

Quit making me jealous, I just got done cutting my own bangs (that is Mommy's job but for some reason she won't drive 6 hours to do it...). If I had my way I'd be going to a grad school close to home, commuting, and saving a ton of money (at least $600 a month!), too bad there was no such thing! Ah well, there are benefits to living on one's own, like getting to poke a ton of holes in the wall to hang one's microbes collection...

Giardia
04-21-2006, 12:06 PM
Yes, my mom still cuts my bangs, and hugs me till I can no longer breathe, and my dad pays for lots of stuff...Life is good:D :D :D :p

Have you ever tried cutting your bangs? When I lived at home I did a few times when I got tired of waiting for Mom to have time, always a disaster! My Grandfather decided to do it for her once when I was real little, guess it was so bad she cried (my mom is weird about hair, anything bad happens to any of our hair she freaks and often cries). My sister shaved the bottom of her head once (shaved bottom long top was a style when I was in Jr high, she tried this 5 or so years after it went out), Momma sobed over that one! I laughed and laughed at her (sister not Mom, poor Mom), she looked funny!

Giardia

I had a friend who cut her bangs to the roots when she was little. Didn't want to wait for them to grow out!

kskerr
04-26-2006, 10:54 PM
My sister cut hers to about a cm when she was in Jr High, she was trying to cut them herself but it was uneven on one side to she cut it and then it was too short on that side so she had to cut the other side... My mom cried! It was kinda funny since class pics were like a week later. It was freaky at first but I got used to seeing them that way, plus that was the style in the 50's or something so perhaps she was being retro :D! She grew them out now so doesn't have to deal with them.

Do y'all do cm or in up north? C or F?

Giardia
04-30-2006, 03:28 PM
centimeters. We're metric. The states wanted to me independant, so they stuck with imperial. I know how to measure in feet and inches, though. I just can't translate imperial to metric, and vise-versa.

kskerr
04-30-2006, 07:08 PM
Being a science major I am a mixed case. I think in customary but know things in metric. I can convert some things but generally need a chart with the conversion factors. If they taught us metric first in schools then we'd likely convert in a decade or two, they teach customary first and when that is ingrained then they teach metric and so it is foreign to us and unless a person goes into science they never do anything with metric again (well besides buy soda in L).
