View Full Version : What was your first Microbe?

Giardia
02-26-2006, 10:46 PM
I didn't do this as a poll, because there are only ten possible answers and 31 microbes. My first microbe, however, was the Common cold. I got him for Christmas 2005 from my dad. He didn't realize he would start something...:D :D

kskerr
03-04-2006, 04:03 PM
I went all out and got them all in the 15 microbe set when I discovered them.

Sleeping Disease got me started. Althoug I ordered it along with two others, that was the one I was then sure about not giving away to friends but keep myself instead!

Just got sleeping sickness yesterday (for easter, along with black death). So cute!:D :D :D :D

My first microbes were the dust mite and cough. I got them on the same day. :)

Giardia
04-17-2006, 10:40 PM
those are good ones. The cough is plain, but good.

kskerr
04-18-2006, 02:01 AM
I like the pretty blue color, makes it stand out a bit :D.

Crazy4Microbes
04-18-2006, 03:14 PM
What pretty blue color?

Giardia
04-18-2006, 07:43 PM
I think you misunderstood me, kskerr! I said cough, you were thinking cold!

kskerr
04-19-2006, 02:56 AM
Ah pertussis, yellow not blue, cold is blue... I like pertussis, that one is causing a big stir in the US these days since they discovered the vaccine only works until a person is about 17 (if that), quite a few cases were found, only good thing is that in adults it is only a bad cough and not the killer it is in kiddies who are protected by the vaccine (except for the ones that have psycho parents that don't get them vaccinated...). Think the new vaccine that is approved for adults is out now, not 100% though.

Giardia
04-19-2006, 04:46 PM
That works well enough if the vaccine gets kids through their fatal whooping cough days.

kskerr
04-19-2006, 08:17 PM
The problem comes in that the adults become a reservoir of sickness and can infect an unimmunized child, and I bet that a weakened adult would likely have troubles with a pertussis infection...

Giardia
04-20-2006, 10:06 PM
That's true...but hey, kids are the main cause of ear aches in adults!:D :D :D :D

kskerr
04-21-2006, 01:56 AM
and head aches! ;)

Giardia
04-21-2006, 12:07 PM

I can't stop laughing from the slaw thing!!!:D :D :D :p

kskerr
04-22-2006, 03:20 AM
Glad you find it amusing, the coworkers didn't so much, even when I got some on my gloved hand and would pretend that I was touched by something unclean... Yeah I was often quite bored at work...

Giardia
04-22-2006, 11:02 AM
well, it was the misunderstood "ant slaw think that REALLY made me laugh!

kskerr
04-24-2006, 10:57 PM
You did have me quite concerned over that one, first that ya'll might actually have slawed ants and then that you would hyperventilate and your mom would restrict your computer access to prevent you from sufficating, death by Giantmicrobes forum ! Glad neither happened :D!!!

Giardia
04-25-2006, 05:36 PM
Oh, thanks, now I'm laughing at THAT!!:D :D :D :D

kskerr
04-26-2006, 10:37 PM
That is a benefit to not having a roommate, no one to call the loony bin when I totally crack up over something on this forum! :D

Giardia
04-28-2006, 10:23 PM
HAHAHA! Loony bin! THAT's even funny!

kskerr
04-29-2006, 12:39 PM

Giardia

Pollock
06-02-2006, 11:35 PM
My first two were Stomach Ache and Kissing Disease. I bought them at the same time. They were so adorable, I couldn't leave the museum gift shop with just one.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 12:47 AM
I love how stomach ache has cilia :D!

Pollock
06-03-2006, 12:51 AM
They're so fun! I love fluffing them back and forth.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 12:53 AM
I like having them all stick out. That one has a special place on my wall where I can see it easy since I think it is one of the cutest ones :).

Pollock
06-03-2006, 12:56 AM
He's certainly adorable. When my dad first saw him he wanted to know why I had a cheese sandwich with eyes.

Ulcer is a cutie too. I wish I had him.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 12:59 AM
I used to play with ulcer's flagella a bit, now that it is on the wall I don't mess with it too much.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:00 AM
Cheese sandwich with eyes, that is an interesting one, my friend thinks that martian life looks like Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo, that is what he named it :D.

Pollock
06-03-2006, 01:05 AM
Hehe, it does look a little like Mr. Hanky!

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:09 AM
Yes, I did have to agree with him. Mr. Hanky is cool.

Giardia
06-03-2006, 05:55 PM
YOU'RE RIGHT! Minus the santa hat and brown colour.:D

kskerr
06-04-2006, 09:22 AM
Haha you spelled color like a Brit :p. I can almost see mine jumping off the wall and singing (if I saw it do so I'd have to check into a clinic for such things... nice padded walls).

Giardia
06-04-2006, 11:49 AM
Rofl! And I Spelled Colour Like A Canadian,ok? C-a-n-a-d-i-a-n!

kskerr
06-04-2006, 11:05 PM
Do you spell flavor, flavour too? What's with the extra u's ! Less letters the better for me, that was one of the best parts of moving to Iowa, only 4 letters :p ...

Giardia
06-04-2006, 11:16 PM
yup, flavour.

kskerr
06-04-2006, 11:26 PM
Te he! Guess the US is the only one that drops all the silly extra u's, we are such rebels!

Giardia
06-04-2006, 11:27 PM
Oh, you are soooo bad, you Americans;) :D

kskerr
06-04-2006, 11:37 PM
We are, us and our American english

Pollock
06-06-2006, 12:50 AM
I once spelled favorite "favourite" on an essay, and my teacher counted off 3 points and said it was incorrect. I told her it was the British spelling, and she came back with, "well we write in English in this class."

I just stared at her...

Giardia
06-07-2006, 04:42 PM
Whaaaaaat?

kskerr
06-08-2006, 11:41 PM
That is hilariously insane, only in America!!!

kskerr
06-08-2006, 11:42 PM
I'd have given you the points, don't think Bill Gates considers mispelled so I wouldn't ;).

happysmiley
06-13-2006, 07:59 PM
My first microbe? I bought Syphilis for my ex (!), and gave it to her on Valentine's Day! :)

It was fantastic. She was squealing she was so happy that she got a VD on V-Day, and to this day it's at her desk. She tries to get her co-workers who pass by her cubicle to "touch [her] STD."

I tell you, Syphilis, it's the gift that keeps on giving! ;)

kskerr
06-14-2006, 09:59 AM
How romantic :D!!! Great story, I love it!

Pollock
06-14-2006, 04:16 PM
My boyfriend thinks it's funny to throw Kissing Disease at me all the time. I'm ordering the Venereal set today... let's see how he likes me throwing The Clap at him. :p

kskerr
06-14-2006, 08:07 PM
A friend of mine get very excited when he saw my collection, had trouble deciding which he'd like to get his friends until he saw HIV, he was quite fond of that one... The Clap was high on the list until HIV came along, these plushes are so much fun!

Pollock
06-15-2006, 04:47 PM
And they catch quick (no pun intended). My boyfriend thought I was nuts at first, but now he's told me if I ever get doubles that he wants them.

kskerr
06-16-2006, 02:54 AM
They are infectious :D

Giardia
06-16-2006, 10:10 PM
the puns, the puns, the PUNS!

kskerr
06-17-2006, 02:08 AM
As long as my mommy does not see, she loves them and doesn't let it go if I make one, it is rather irritating...

Pollock
06-17-2006, 09:12 AM
2 of my friends share an apartment up at my school, and they have a "Pun Jar". It used to be for their D&D games only (like if someone made an in-game pun you have to put in a quarter), but now if you make a pun while in their apartment, you have to put in a quarter. It's the "pun-ishment". ...ok, that was lame.

I think I've lost $5 to that dang jar. Towards the end of the semester we were all hanging out before studying for finals took up all of our time, and we all got hungry, and my friend Scott (it's his place) was like "use the Pun Jar, and go to Wendy's". We had enough money in the jar to feed about 8 people!! And there was money left over!

kskerr
06-18-2006, 01:13 AM
Wow, ya'll make a lot of puns!!! My mom would not only love the concept she'd also love the pun you made.

Pollock
06-18-2006, 01:17 AM
I made a really lame one once and a friend of mine groaned and said "You make the worst puns!" and I was like "I am the Pun-isher!" and I struck a pose. They made me put a whole dollar in the jar for being an idiot.

kskerr
06-18-2006, 10:55 AM
They let you off kinda easy with only a dollar ;) :D

Pollock
06-18-2006, 02:28 PM
I put about an average of $3 or $4 in the jar a week.

Giardia
06-18-2006, 08:34 PM
Kissing Disease speaks in Mono-Tone! K, that was REALLY lame!:D :p

Pollock
06-18-2006, 08:51 PM
Hahaha! That's a good pun. :D

Giardia
06-18-2006, 09:46 PM
thanks:D:D

kskerr
06-19-2006, 03:31 AM
Ack, y'all have gone madder than Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy !!!

Giardia
06-20-2006, 10:59 PM
We're all mad here;)

kskerr
06-21-2006, 02:36 AM
Yes, I'm afraid we are, but at least we are mad together... BTW, do you northern folk say "Bullix" or however you spell it, the Brits in a movie we saw said it all the time and I found it hilarious and have adopted that work, I'll just say it out of the blue and it totally freaks out my sister, tehehe :D!

Giardia
07-02-2006, 11:54 AM
What the heck is Bullix???

kskerr
07-05-2006, 02:57 AM
Ok it is spelled bollocks I guess...

My first was everyone in the set of 15, with the exception of Yeast. Yeast came late due to a shipping error, but I got him in the end.

kskerr
07-06-2006, 04:15 PM
It is a brit slang/swear. It means BS generally.

Giardia
07-18-2006, 09:06 PM
i see....................

kskerr
07-19-2006, 02:36 AM
Yes I've decided that I should switch to brit swearing since it sounds funny and it is not exactally swearing here... Bloody bollocks I say, ahahhahahaha!

Giardia
07-30-2006, 11:58 PM
i think bullocks are a kind of livestock...let me look it up...(jeopardy music playing)...ah, here we go! According to the Gage Canadian dictionary, a bullock is...1 a castrated bull: an ox or steer 2 a young bull...interesting.

Nutdiwnin
08-02-2006, 07:04 AM
It is really??

Giardia
08-02-2006, 12:40 PM
Yup, says so on the online dictionary, Gage canadian dictionary, Webster's english dictionary, and it makes a reference to "bellowing bullocks" in Old Possum's Book of Practical Cat's Specific poem Old Deuteronomy. So, there you go.:D

Giardia
08-02-2006, 12:44 PM
and it makes a reference to sheep right after...the whole line is "The bullocks may bellow, the sheep may bleat...." There is more to the line...but it has nothing to do with what we're discussing. Bullock is to Bull as Gelding is to Stallion. If you caught any of that, you would see that the definition is indeed correct.:p :p :p :D

kskerr
08-04-2006, 01:21 AM
I'm so educational, improving vocab in the youths :D

Giardia

i already sort of knew that word...you made me look further into it, though

kskerr
08-05-2006, 11:59 PM
Though I think the brit swear version is bollocks and it means bs, think it is different from bullock, hard for a yank to figure these things out ;).

Giardia
08-06-2006, 01:36 PM
i think they probably are different...i'm not sure...

kskerr
08-07-2006, 02:57 AM
It seems to depend on what info source you use, annoying.
