View Full Version : Where do you keep your microbes?

Giardia

I keep mine with the health category lined up on my pillow, and the rest are beginning to line up on my headboard. Still thinking of what to do once I run out of room on my headboard:D :D :D . (I have eighteen, by the way).

Right now they are all in my home "office", I am debating what to do with them though. One idea is to hang them on the wall in the office (in a way that does not involve driving nails through them of course). The wall I am thinking of using has stupid paneling (I hate wood paneling on walls!) so it would be nice to cover it with something cool... It also faces me when I am at the computer so I could look up for inspiration when studying or writting a paper. I thought of the wall idea the other day, the more I think about it the more I like it.

I am using them to decorate my rooms with my family and in my town of study.
In my dorm room, rhinovirus is Sentry of the Computer, and Sleeping Sickness is Grandmaster of the Bed.
At home, Flu is Master of all Sofa; Beer&Bread is Chief of Chair; and Sore Throat is Defender of the Desk.

i play with them every day, and sleep with them every night! i also keep them in a nice storage box under my bed.:D

I got ambitious and now all but three of mine are on the office wall, I used a needle and thread to make a loop to hang them with, it can be removed very easily if and when they are no longer wall ornaments. It looks really cool with them all up there surrounding pics of my family, very geeky cool! If I ever get a pic of it perhaps I'll post it.

I'm running out of room on top of my headboard. Luckily, I have enough room to finish the professionals, so there will be no incomplete collections. I've decided to put the critters on by sliding the tags into the slots on my headboard (you won't get what I'm saying unless you check the photo of the headboard in the photos section) and turning them so that it looks like they are crawling on the face of it!:D

I sleep with my germs right next to my stomach and they usually stay in my bed but sometimes I take them out and play with them.

Giardia
04-17-2006, 10:40 PM
I can't sleep with mine next to me...I'd roll over and crush them!:D :p

kskerr
04-18-2006, 02:00 AM
Yes I would also worry about crushing them, or having them fall behind the bed potentially in dust and or cob webs... I saw the pic, love the headboard thing Giardia!

Crazy4Microbes
04-18-2006, 03:19 PM
Some times they fall out of the bed but that's about the worst that could happen to them. I sleep with millions of stuffed animals (and microbes) so I can't move that much let alone roll over and crush them. Thankfully, my bed is pressed agaist the wall, so it is pretty much impossible for my microbes to fall behind the bed. :D Anyway all the dust behind the bed will be good for the dust mite.

Giardia
04-18-2006, 07:43 PM
Lol. It's like you wake up in the morning and the dust mite is buried under the dust!:D That would be kinda creepy, in a way...

kskerr
04-19-2006, 02:51 AM
I'm a roller, I can't sleep with stuffed critters.

Giardia
04-19-2006, 04:47 PM
Me neither, one I woke up at the foot of my bed!:D :D :D :D

kskerr
04-19-2006, 08:18 PM
That would be impossible for me to do, I only have a twin so would fall out before getting there  splat!

Giardia
04-20-2006, 10:05 PM
I have a double. Mmmm, lots of exess room to roll around (and put microbes).:D :D :D :D

kskerr
04-21-2006, 01:56 AM
Yeah that would allow more room for your collection, though if they keep making them you will have to get a king!

Giardia
04-21-2006, 12:09 PM
I think I will begin to line them up on my painting that's at the foot of my bed on the wall. There's lots of room there. But there is still room on my headboard for the last seven in my collection. Of course, the critters won't be on the top of the headboard.:D

My mom is horrified because I am thinking about moving my diploma and degree out of my office so I'll have more room to fit the microbes on the wall...

Giardia
04-21-2006, 06:59 PM
lol:D :D :D :D

kskerr
04-22-2006, 03:18 AM
The microbes are way more impressive looking than the degree, when one looks at my office wall they look at the microbes! Besides the degree is in the degree holder, you can't actually see it, it is just a red folder thing that has Benedictine University and their crest thing on the front...

Giardia
04-22-2006, 11:03 AM
Microbes are much better than a boring old folder!:D :D :D :D

I mean, come on, would you rather have a peice of paper that shows hard work and skill, or some plush germs?

kskerr
04-26-2006, 10:50 PM
The plush microbes are a lot cuter....

I've posted within 30 before with no issues, weird!

Giardia
04-30-2006, 03:26 PM
but please post again in 4 seconds? It cracked me up for some reason. I'm affraid I'm going to be sent off to the Happy Home! They're coming to take me away, haha, they're coming to take me away, haha hoho hehe haha...

kskerr

That was the theme song to a group I was in once, we were always very wary of the white coats...

Giardia
05-01-2006, 11:03 PM
And I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats, they're coming to take me away hahaaaaaa! Oh, by the way, back on topic, I had to have the professionals, who were at the end of my headboard, move on to my pillow and trade places with the health. AIDS, Hep, and Polio wouldn't stop falling off onto my head in the middle of the night!

kskerr
05-01-2006, 11:49 PM
That sounds so funny! I'd freak if something fell on my head in the middle of the night. I remember my hosptial stay after the appendix, the nurses checking my temp throughout the night, they used an ear thermometer and no matter how hard they tried I'd wake up every time! If they put some morphine in the IV first I might have stayed asleep but they didn't think to do that ;)!

I only have 4 right now, and they all hang out on my bed. My mom thinks I'm crazy.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 12:48 AM
My mom knows I'm crazy ;) :D!

Giardia
06-03-2006, 05:57 PM
I got so sick of them falling on me, that one night, I grabbed them all, stomped over to my closet, threw them in, and slammed the door. Trying to think of a new place...

Giardia
06-03-2006, 05:58 PM
Wait, there are NON-CRAZY people?

kskerr
06-04-2006, 09:26 AM
It is more that there are less crazy people than non-crazy people ;). They looked very cute on your headboard but I can more than imagine how irritating it must have been to have keep getting boinked by them at night, would have driven me nuts long before! You can think of it as redecorating :D!

Giardia
06-04-2006, 11:48 AM
Now that I have them all, I put them back up. The ones that fell of have been re-arranged so that they are supported by the sturdier ones. Haven't fallen off yet! The critters now reside on my other pillow. Looks very cool, I'll take a picture soon.

kskerr
06-04-2006, 11:02 PM

E. coli is now in 22 of the 50 states... almost half of the US!!

kskerr
09-19-2006, 03:46 PM
Hmm I saw 21 this morning, including IL, my mother is freaking since she ate some, wants to send me a sample, she does have some potential symptoms but it is hard to say if it is that or not. I am thinking she should go to the doc and find out perhaps, if she is a case that would potentially help them keep track, generally the more information the better with these things.

I heard a truck driver was told to get rid of his load of spinach and so had the brilliant idea to dump it into a river, by brilliant I mean, holy crap are you insane!!!! This was in Texas so watch out Pollock (though of course Texas is huge and I am not sure where this happened since I did not read the story a friend told me about it...). So far no Iowa, I am not too concerned about myself really, I have not eaten anything of the sort and pretty much only been eating food at home that was bought before and nothing fresh except for tomatoes from my neighbor's garden (she was such a sweetie giving me some).

Tonight we have a frost advisory here, I hate this time of year, seems a little early for first frost too, so much for global warming, dang!

Tuburculosis

kskerr
09-19-2006, 04:49 PM
I have to bring all the plants I care about in, figure out where to put them and all, I hate frost and winter! Seems Iowa has only extreme weather sometimes, either really cold or really hot. It was colder here at times than it was in North Dakota, which is up boardering Canada!!!

Her symptoms could also be psychological. She's worried she ate bad spinach, so she's going to start "feeling" symptoms of it. She should get checked out by a doctor just in case.

mazuac
09-19-2006, 05:24 PM
yes, i agreee with pollcok, i sometimes make myself think i have a sickness, so i don't have to go to school, and i actually start feeling sick!

I sent her a list of the actual symptoms, she now does not think she has it, even if she did unless it got very severe it is a let it run its course thing, generally is with adults. It is only treated with antibiotics if it is in the blood, it normally stays in the gut.

Tuburculosis
09-20-2006, 06:17 AM
in the gut its okay,right?

kskerr

Normal, nonpathogenic E. coli is fine in the gut, the pathogenic kind is not but it is better in the gut than in the blood!

I keep mine in a bag but it is way to small for 21 microbes especially when one of them is a gigantic. I'm thinking of doing a giant microbe room in my closet. I could hang some from the ceiling. I could get a big plastic laundry thingy and spray paint it and glue giant microbe pictures to it. Also I know a place wear you send in a picture and they'll make a giant wall mural of it so that'd be cool.
