View Full Version : Which is your next?

GERMan

So, tell me: Which one are you really yearning for?
Me, I'm still undecided if I want Yeast or Ear Ache next... But then Bad Breath looks so microbish, man! :D

I'm expecting Black Death and Flesh Eating in the mail any day now. I want them all eventually (will have 8 once those guys arrive), but in the immediate future I'll probably buy HIV, Gonorrhea and Syphillis.

kskerr
01-17-2006, 07:25 PM
I need polio, louse and pimple, and then I will have them all until they make more :D. Pimple is the one I really want because it is a cousin of my potential research organism :). My birthday is in a few months, I figure I'll hold off on buying them myself so my family will have something they can get me, I can be a snot since I never know what to ask for and it irritates several of them.

Great news: I'm considering getting Mono (Kissing Disease) next. Why Mono? Wasn't even on my list... until lately.

Our liaison professor has scheduled a paper discussion for the next meeting. We'll discuss new findings on Epstein-Barr-Virus, and how it actually cripples host biochemistry via micro-RNAs.
On top, I found out much interesting stuff on EBV in wikipedia, which I'll hyperlink in the "Science" section. Take for example its 95% prevalence as opposed to its little to zero deadliness and bow in front of so much adaptation :D
Kewl klever little fellow, that pink sweety pie is!

I want Earache, TB, Martian Life and Beer and Bread next.

Have to agree that Pimple is one of the best - so cute with his lil pimple on his face! Got mine just before New Year!

GERMan

Can't do without yeast. The second one to go in the parcel will be a tough decision though... :D
Kewl, I thought Pimple was supposed to have a mouth, now that it's a pimple it all starts making sense!

kskerr
02-07-2006, 09:46 PM
I did not realise that it was a pimple either, now I want it more :)!!! If I did not already have it I would want mono because my doctor recently was so sure I had it (though I insisted that I didn't, not sleepy...) he had me get a blood test (came back negative :p). Should have told him that I did have it but that it was at home on my desk with all my other diseases :D!

My next priority microbes are the Ear Ache and Sleeping Sickness. My first ones were the fifteen pack.

Giardia
02-25-2006, 09:29 PM
Finally have all the Maladies:) . Took quite awhile. Anyway, next I'm going to get cough, martian life, flesh eating, black death, and sleeping sickness:D . That means I will have all the venereals, all the maladies, all the alimentaries (i think that's how you spell it), all the exotics, all the health, and all the calamities:D .

kskerr
03-04-2006, 04:57 PM
Someone your age shouldn't have any of the venereals Giardia :D, lol j/k! I had a lot of fun talking about wanting Syphilis and Gonorrhea! Got some interesting  looks until I told them about the giantmicrobes, then I got  looks! I love giantmicrobes!!!

Giardia
03-05-2006, 12:25 AM
Yeah, I took the venereals to school and showed them to my class! Being a very strong science student, and having read lots of anatomy books, I knew what all the information meant on the card for the clap, and explained it to my class. Awkward! I think my face turned red!:p

kskerr
03-26-2006, 01:23 AM
Ah a future micro major perhaps :)....

Giardia
04-03-2006, 11:41 PM
Yeah, I've been considering Microbiologist, Surgeon, or vet. Something with relation to biology

Giardia
04-03-2006, 11:42 PM
WOOT! Bought cough, flesh eating, and martian life! Just...ten...more...!:D

kskerr
04-04-2006, 08:23 PM
Congrats on getting closer to having them all! I figured it out for sure when I was in college, was planning to go genetics when I started and decided to go micro about half way through when I took courses in both. I thought vet and MD doctor when I was in high school, very hard to get into either in the states and I prefer the idea of playing with bacteria to people or animals.

I think I'd like mad cow as my next because it's just so adorable with it's cow print fur. Yeast runs a very close second.

04-17-2006, 06:39 PM
Definitly Polio. Probably getting it this weekend. It's my favourite out of the ones I don't have.:D :D :D :D (seven more, including polio)

04-17-2006, 07:53 PM
I plan on getting the flu, and the bookworm next.

kskerr
04-17-2006, 09:09 PM
Only need louse and my mommy implied she was getting it for me.... :D

Giardia
04-17-2006, 10:21 PM
YAAAY for Kskerr

kskerr
04-18-2006, 01:26 AM
Thanks, it has been several years coming (though I had them all and they got new ones without me knowing, now I keep an eye on them...). I am thinking I will attept patience for the new ones, not buy them myself but wait for Christmas and ask for them (perhaps my relatives won't want to string me up if I do, I drive them crazy with the never knowing what I want thing). Will be so hard though knowing they are there waiting to be mine...

Giardia
04-18-2006, 07:55 PM
That would be very painful:D :D :D :D .

kskerr
04-19-2006, 03:15 AM
Yes, yes it would be, but having happy relatives might be worth it...

Giardia
04-19-2006, 04:38 PM
True...they will probably sing happy bithday extra loud for you...:D

kskerr
04-19-2006, 08:02 PM
I doubt they will be singing it at all, I am not going home for it, too long a drive for such a silly reason, plus I have class the day before and the day after so would only be able to stay overnight and then have to leave again... Nah the new ones would be for christmas, which I will likely be home for.

Giardia
04-20-2006, 10:14 PM
Now happy birthday? How barbaric!

kskerr
04-21-2006, 02:21 AM
Well I'm not singing it to myself, that is just pathetic, and I am not telling anyone here when it is my birthday (I hate having a fuss made) so no probably no happy birthday song unless someone(s) calls from back in Chicago and harrasses me (goodness I hope they don't sing!), I kinda find the song irritating anyway so it is more than fine if I don't have to hear it... Good thing I don't have class that day, would hate to have people trying to call when I am in class. As is it will likely be a pain since I will likely be plating E. coli and possibly Salmonella all day and the calls would interupt my plating, we have 426 plates to get done and I want to get it all done that day so my boss doesn't feel the need to spend the night in the office and work on it overnight! OK I'm done venting about how annoying birthdays can be.

Giardia
04-21-2006, 12:01 PM
The whole point of happy birthday is it's supposed to annoy any embarass you, It's just a bad tradition.:D

kskerr
04-21-2006, 01:53 PM
I see, it all makes sense now... Well being 340 miles away will put a damper on that one!!!

Giardia
04-21-2006, 07:05 PM
Back on topic, my next one's polio! I will also get H.I.V and hep at the smae time!

kskerr
04-22-2006, 03:28 AM
Momma said that there was a "package" shipped fedex on its way, wonder what that could be... When she sends me stuff she uses US postal, hmm, who uses fedex, mayhaps GIANTmicrobes (they did for the ones my sister got me)... She is funny, could have just said that I am getting louse...

Giardia
04-22-2006, 10:58 AM
YAAAAAAAAAY! When it comes, you'll have to have a big party! 31, 31, 31!:D :D :D :D

kskerr
04-24-2006, 10:16 PM
Should get it tomorrow, if I don't momma will not be pleased, she is more anxious than I am of it arriving, she is always like this when something is sent, she said she hopes I like the things, makes me curious what all she got me...

kskerr
04-24-2006, 10:19 PM
HIV and Hepatitis at the same time, that'd be rough! And polio on top of it all! You know they have vaccines for two of those ;). Lol, enjoy your buggies, won't be long before you have them all too :D!

Giardia
04-25-2006, 05:52 PM
I also won a bet today. I won exactly enough for another microbe. I should be able to get four this weekend! That would mean two left! Or, I could be boring and save my money, and just get three. Hmmmmm....

kskerr
04-26-2006, 11:05 PM
Hmm, tough one, what would you be saving it for...

kskerr
04-26-2006, 11:06 PM
I now have louse, my collection is once again complete... until they finally put out the new ones!!! :D :) :D :)

Giardia
04-28-2006, 10:08 PM
like I said before, savour the moment. I think the new germs are coming out in June or early July!:D :D :D :D

kskerr

We'll see!

Giardia
04-30-2006, 03:36 PM

Pollock
06-03-2006, 12:02 AM
Sleeping Sickness, TB, and Polio are the ones I'd love to get next, but I still have a long way to go on my collection (I only have 4 so far, and there's 31!), so it's basically which ones I happen to come across first. I like buying them when I go to museums because then, not only are they cool because they're Giantmicrobes, but then they have memories to go with them.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 12:55 AM
Only 31 for now, rumors are rampant that there will be more soon :D!!! I bought the first bunch that came out and since then have been letting my family buy them for me since I can be a pain to shop for and they insist on buying me stuff for special occasions.

Pollock
06-03-2006, 12:58 AM
Yeah, I saw the thread about new ones coming soon. I'm so excited!

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:01 AM
I am somewhat skeptical myself, keep hearing the rumors but so far nothing...

Pollock
06-03-2006, 01:06 AM
So long as there's hope...:)

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:08 AM
You are right, I hope they do come out with new ones soon, though I would be horribly tempted to buy them before the next holiday, my family would not be pleased. Though it would stop them from fighting over who gets me which one...

Pollock
06-03-2006, 01:09 AM
It's ok to have more than one! Microbes don't work alone. They need all their buddies to help them!

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:11 AM
You have a point, though I am running out of wall space...

Pollock
06-03-2006, 01:13 AM
Some for the wall, some for your bed, and some for a shelf. Or just keep a few on hand for quick gift ideas.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:19 AM
I don't keep them on my bed, I would squish them since I'm a roller. They look quite cool on the wall :D

Pollock
06-03-2006, 01:21 AM
I usually keep mine on my bookshelf, but lately they've been staying on my bed. I sleep in a little ball all night long, so the rest of my bed is seldom disturbed.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 01:38 AM
I'd squish them or knock them behind the bed where they would likely get dirty since who cleans behind their bed and all...

Pollock
06-03-2006, 01:41 AM
Dust mites on your Dust Mite!

I have a futon, so I have no choice but to keep the area behind my bed tidy.

kskerr
06-03-2006, 10:50 AM

I just got a new credit card... hellooooooo new Microbes!

I think I'm going to treat myself to a couple sets of them (probably Exotics and Venereals, or perhaps Critters).

I'm also going to get the last 3 books in this series I've been reading.

Me + a credit card = new stuff = a little bit of trouble.

kskerr
06-13-2006, 10:20 AM
Just remember that you have to pay them back ;)

Pollock
06-13-2006, 01:41 PM
Actually, I lucked out on that one, too. Technically, my parents still pay for it. And, I seldom use a credit card for anything other than a tank of gas.

kskerr
06-13-2006, 11:18 PM
Pay at the pump is the best invention in the history of gas stations :), I only go to stations that have it (I have encountered a couple that do not ). I had a credit card that was in my mom's name for awhile, it was a store card and I used it once and she got the bill and threw it in a stack of other bills and forgot about it so there I was waiting and waiting for it and it didn;t show up, finally she remembered getting it and it was overdue, thankfully they did not charge a late fee, she said she'd pay it if they did. Since I moved out my mom is more into paying for things for me, I generally don't let her though, I have a bit of an independ streak...

I've spent the past 8 summers working at a day camp, and I earn money that way. I've also been trying to find another summer job, but most businesses want a more permanent employee, and since I go to school out of town, they're hesitant to hire me.

kskerr
06-14-2006, 10:04 AM
That stinks! I commuted from home so was able to have a permanent job all 4 years I was an undergrad. The summer camp job sounds fun :)!

I get to mow the lawn for 70 bucks a time!

kskerr
06-17-2006, 02:11 AM
We were lucky to get $5! Is your pink dollars worth a whole whole whole lot less than our somewhat green ones (they are kinda changing them, I do not like the new ones as much, look a bit fake)?

Giardia
06-18-2006, 08:43 PM
My lawn is HUGE, mind you!:D

kskerr
06-19-2006, 03:09 AM
Ours was not too big but it would have had to take up the whole block and then some for my parents to be willing to pay $70 for us to do it!

Giardia
06-20-2006, 11:03 PM
ours also has a lot of landscaping...lndscaping=hills. Hills=more work!

kskerr
06-21-2006, 02:50 AM
Lol, here landscaping = trees, shrubs, and gardens mostly. I refused to care for our yard back home, I tended the gardens and dug up the lawn to extend the gardens when momma wasn't looking (she hated me digging up the stupid grass but flowers are so much cooler and prettier!).

Giardia
07-02-2006, 11:49 AM
Grass isn't very inspiring, I must say...

kskerr
07-05-2006, 02:51 AM
I just got back from visiting my aunt in Indiana who has awesome and massive gardens and then my aunt in Michigan who also has awesome and massive gardens, they make me jealous! Then my cousin has a house and it is mostly grass very little landscaping/garden, I wanted to start digging up the grass and puting in flowers so bad!!! It must be a guy thing not wanting pretty flowers!

Giardia
07-31-2006, 10:44 AM
All the english people I know have beautiful gardens...lots of roses in them.

kskerr
08-04-2006, 01:01 AM
I have no luck with rose bushes, my first bloomed once and my mom ran it over with the lawn mower, my second bloomed and died before I planted it (bought it a bit too soon) and I think it was the carrier of the white flies that devastated my garden that year. I had two little tea roses, they did pretty good before they too died... Moss roses are my current flower of choice because my flower garden is on my patio since they will not let me dig up the lawn, stupid apartment rules, moss roses love containers.
