There has been a discovery of e. coli at a vegetable farm in California. 217 people in 8 different states have already contracted it from lettuce grown on the Salinas Farm. 2 people (residents of a retirement home) have died from it already.

Be careful when eating lettuce!

The fact that they have already found and traced the source is a very good thing, there should already be a recall on all lettus from retailers that it was shipped to and so not be a problem anymore... Always best to be careful to wash foods when you can, my food micro prof advocates washing prewashed salads and such even, I am generally too lazy myself, kinda go with a "if it don't kill you it will make you stronger" mentality...

Or everyone could have a quick giggle because a lettuce leaf brought you down.

"Augh! Lettuce, my one true enemy!"

Now it is spinach, one died in Wisconsin. The cases are all over the map too! They are almost positive it is the spinach from the sounds of it but have not figured out any details yet, like how widespread this is or will be... Good thing I do not really like spinach! Being taken out with rabbit food, pathetic!

It is possible to make it edible but very difficult and rare. If it is drown in something like cheese it is possible, think I had a quiche that had it baked in and that was good. I had a salad that had it in there and that was great.

My mom sent me a link to the article, not realising I was aware of the epidemic, said she bought 3 bags of spinach and ate 2 already and now is paranoid and asking me if she should boil the last bag, I told her it would be a good idea, IL is between IN and WI and this outbreak is scattered all over the place so you never know!

Looks like I won't be eating salads at school for a while.
